Thinking of putting together a little fun ride for Aug 13th.
Many sections are still up from the last event, I would go out and freshen them up with a couple of markers if folks wanted. Will mow the small field so we have clean parking. Is there a group of folks that would sign on and show up for a fun ride at the Clarksville Trials site about 8am or so on that day (beat the heat a bit?) No porta potty, no cost, no trophies, NO NUTTIN but a good time. Call me or post here if you would consider coming out? For those of you unfamiliar with the spot, it is exactly 1 mile from exit 11 on I-24 in Clarksville, TN. Contact me if you are interested! If nobody responds, I may not be there! OK folks looks like there is enough interest to make this happen.
Informal ride / get together / fun ride or whatever you want to call it. Will have some sections set to play on or score against your peers. No cost except for getting there. I will also be out there 30 July if you want to come out and help set some sections. Call to confirm. OK folks, Game on....
Mark, Nick, Nick, Jessie and I went out yesterday and marked the loop and 8 sections. It is ready to go. Jessie came up with an idea that I think we should implement throughout the state. Instead of paying to salt roads in the winter, all we need to do is bushhog along the right of ways.... Because surely it was 50 degrees hotter in that field I just bushhogged the day before! OK, so, here is the plan. There are 8 sections out there on a marked loop. The loop is marked with a combination of standard loop arrows, and surveyors ribbon between. The loop is very easy. We did not drop this loop down into the bottom near the caves and rivers to save some time, effort, and if it rains I will not have to re-route things. The sections, we set 3 difficulties of sections. Nov, Int and Adv. They are set VERY easy. It will be hot, and it is just for fun, ride up a class if you want to be challenged more. Now the Twist, and those that know me know there has to be a twist. Because this is a fun trials I marked it a little unconventianly. Here is the way it is...... This will go down as the Red white and blue trials, each class has a color, and be a little patriotic and think of our soldiers for a minute, white represents the easiest (novice class) Blue the middle or intermediate and Red is the advanced or hardest. When you go to the section you will see clearly marked Begin and end gates, with Red white and blue ribbons on the gates. So find the start and end gates.... Now look between those gates and you will see "gates" of ribbon, ie, two trees or something with ribbon forming a gate. So, if you are a novice, you look for the white gates. Then your section is to pass through the start gate, then through your color of gates, then out the end gate. There are no boundry limits (well some sections have them up) so you can wander about all you want, but keep it reasonable. You can pass through your gate any direction you choose, but only once. You cannot pass through other color gates. You cannot cross your tracks. It sounds complicated here reading it, but it is really pretty simple once you are looking at the sections. The thing I liked about it (other then it made it easier to set) was that it can give you a multitude of different lines through the same sections. So you and I could ride the same class, and take very different approaches. Only time will tell, but I think most folks will find this approach fun and interesting. I will be out there at 8am on Sunday the 13 of Aug to open the gate. If you need in earlier, or the day before, or whatever, contact me and I will be happy to oblige. I will have Score cards if you want to keep up with how you are doing, I am not keeping up with things, I am not giving out trophies or awards, there is no sign up and there is no cost, there are no porta potties out there but there are plenty of woods.......... The field is mowed but boy was it warm out there yesterday. This will be a get in a group with some fellow riders and go out and enjoy yourself. These sections are set VERY EASY...... Try different ones to see what you like. I will probably set some "gold" gates, for those that want an additional challenge Hope to see some folks out there and have a good time. Plenty of facilities close by the area, call me or e-mail me if you are not positive where the site is. Short description here. Go to I-24, Exit 11 in TN. Go towards Clarksville on the 76 connector (McDonalds is on the Clarksville side of the Interstate) Go Exactly one mile from the Interstate and on the right you will see a Fire hydrant beside a driveway, there is a large Red for sale sign on the gate. Pull in there, pull around the corner and you are in the parking field. If you find Wal-Mart and Ruby Tuesday's you have gone one mile too far,,,,,,,, Hope to see everyone there, let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I will be there at 8 am to open the gate.
THIS WILL BE VERY INFORMAL. NO SIGN UP NO NOTHING. We will get together in groups and go out, self paced. I have score cards available for those that want to keep track of where they are at. I will be there throughout the day, so I am certain people will be coming and going at different times. Hope you can make it, look forward to seeing you.
