My STRA Friends, I received some very sad news today concerning Jerry Deal. While I have no detais, I was told that Jerry passed away approximately two weeks ago. Those of us who knew Jerry loved and respected him for his truly fine character. He was always willing to pitch in whenever needed, and I do not believe I ever heard him say anything negative about anyone. A good mechanic and an excellent paint and body man, his attention to detail was obvious to anyone who visited his shop. Those of us who were around between 1999 and 2005 remember him as father of Tom Deal. Though not currently active, Tom is one of the best riders the STRA has ever produced, having progressed from novice to AMA Champ class in only four years. More recently, we remember and thenk Jerry and the Deal family for annually hosting the Owl's Hollow Trials on their beautiful property. Until last year when his health began to seriously fail, Jerry provided a wonderful cookout to all competitors and their families. He never allowed anyone to pay or the club to reimburse him, or even help with expenses. In the final analysis, having known Jerry for eleven years, I can say this about him. He was an honest man who worked hard all of his life. He loved and provided for his family and he did his best in all of his endeavors. We should all hope to be remembered so well.

I am so sad to read this message. Jerry was one of those guys who was always smiling and was a joy to hang out with, as well as a great father as seen in Tom. He will be missed by all that got to know him. One of the STRA people that everyone loved and he should be considered for the HOF since he never lost his love for the sport even after he could no longer ride. A great guy all around!

I am saddened to hear of Jerry's passing. I had the opportunity to be friends with him and Tom during their time in trials. Tom befriended my nephew and was a great mentor, obviously passed down from Jerry. Such a generous and friendly man will be greatly missed.
