I will be at Newnan this Saturday around 9:00 or 9:30 to start setting up sections, please come with the ribbon and marking kit. Maybe the Atlanta Club wants to come help “hint, hint”.

Anyway I was thinking “it so hot” maybe we should have 10 sections per day with only 3 loops. We have had them in the past and worked will.

For Paul – Time limits

I see your point with the time limits, on the last loop. So for Newnan we will set a time at the riders meeting; depending on how many riders show up. The trial will be over when the time runs out or add points for the riders that are late, or something like that John and I will work something out.

Just so there is no confusion and we do not end up with flaring tempers at the event, everyone needs to remember that the Sporting Steward has final say over when the event ends and will recommend to the promoter any extension necessary to ensure that the spirit of the rules, which state that the time limit is to ensure that the event runs in a timely manner and is not to penalize the rider, is followed.

I am not sure why a few people have begun to make such an issue of this. The STRA is not doing badly, but our rider turnout is certainly not increasing. Between this and the gate marking issue, there is enough controversy to turn off some members. Let's please be cautious in this regard.

Ron,
"to insure that the event runs in a timely manner and not to penalize the rider"
That sounds to me like the rule was intended to do what I stated, speed it up a little.
"and not to penalize the rider" Sounds like if it is slowed down it penalizes the rider.

Let's not penalize those 3 or 4 riders by requiring them to ride a 4 hour event in less than 7. But it's okay to penalize the observers who have volunteered their time and effort in the woods so that our ride will take less time and be more enjoyable.
Is Charlie the Sporting Stewart?
The year-end meeting should be interesting.

By the way,

If the Sporting Stewart has "final say" then he really doesn't "recommend". He asks and if he doesn't get his way, he demands.

Perhaps we should change the wording in the rules to say what it really means.

Sorry, I read the rules and it does say the Stewart has authority to lengthen the time limit.

However, I saw nothing to say that he could end it at a time when there was still a rider finishing his last lap.
