Josh works with Ian at All Top Services. He is also Ian's brother-in-law, and rides with us regularly. All Top is a general contracting outfit that specializes in industrial roofing and they also remodel church steeples and courthouse domes etc.
Josh fell about 35' to the ground off of a metal roof they were applying a coating/sealer to yesterday about 9:30 am. I really don't know too many details about how the accident unfolded, and I don't want to speculate. His injuries are grave, however. Both legs broken at the ankles, as he landed on his feet, thank God. One ankle, the right one, jammed upward and split the Tibia and Fibula... the two smaller bones between the knee and the ankle. He had a surgery last evening to place miscalanious hardware to force his ankle back down to a normal distance from his knee. The right ankle will require more surgical procedures in the near future. The left ankle and heel is "crushed", and will need to heal up some before the surgeries can begin there, too much swelling and soft tissue damage the Surgeon says. The last I heard from Angie (my daughter-in-law) this afternoon is that Josh will not be expected to take any more steps till sometime in 2007. We will miss having him with us when the season begins in September. ...I Corinthians 1:18 NKJV |

... thanks, Alan. I will pass your words along to him this evening. He is a worker! The company will hire two workers to fill in for Josh.
We will miss him this fall when we promote our first two day trial in Alabama at the Deal's place too! ...I Corinthians 1:18 NKJV |

Send my best. I did the same tib fib split from a fall off a roof 7 years ago. The recovery is slow but it beats the alternative. If he wants to talk to someone who has been thru it tell him to give me a call. Clay |

Isn't it strange that most accidents happen
outside of trials competion. I hope for a speedy recovery RC |

Thank you to y'all, you are Josh's family!
I would think a card to him would do much to lift his spirits. Right now, he is still hospitalized. He will be discharged within the next day or two. Josh has access to a morphine pump, so he is extremely comfortable! However, anyone that has been seriously injured, or anyone that has hed a major surgical procedure done will agree with me when I say that we never have much pain in the hospital, it's when we get home when dealing with the pain and mobility isssues that life becomes much more tedious. Also, Ian, Angie and the boys will not only be doing without Josh's help around the house, but will become 'round the clock care givers as well. We all know that role can be tougher than being the injured one sometimes! That being said, those of you that have offered your time in prayer for Josh... I ask you humbly to pray for the whole household please. For Brian and anyone else that wishes to send a card along to Josh to be read and re-read in the long hours and days ahead the mailing address is; Josh Martin 190 Mac Johnson Rd. Cartersville, Ga. 30121 On behalf of Josh, and Ian and his family I thank you, our extended family for your concern and words of encouragement and especially your prayers! God bless y'all! ...I Corinthians 1:18 NKJV |

Alright, here's the latest...
Josh is having surgery #2 as I type this. I don't know the details, but it's a follow through on his right ankle/fibula tibia junction. He will veg in the hospital tonight, and then discharge back to Ian and Angie's house Tuesday. They have him set up in the living room, on a raised single bed. (anyone out there have a hospital bed available?) They live in a split foyer home, and Josh's living quarters have been a mother-in-law suite in the finished basement. Due to the fact that Josh's wheelchair will not negotiate the 90 degree turn into the bathroom, he has to use one of those bed side commodes, not too much privacy for a poop! Ian will fab Josh some grab handles on rope this evening from the vaulted ceiling, so he can more easily transition from the bed to the wheelchair & commode and back. Whew! They are adjusting to the convelesing Josh quite well, they are a tight family over there on Mac Johnson Rd. Please drop Josh a card if you have the spare minutes, he has received several and holds them in very high regard! The prayers of the club members are very much felt, and appriciated by the whole family! The Orthopedist did say that Josh's left ankle and heel can't me helped with today's technology. That one will have to heal on it's own, and only God Himself knows how much, if any movement he will regain down at the foot/ankle on the left. Josh's attitude about that? "At least my brake foot should heal enough to push the pedal!" "With the left one possibly fused together, I should still be able to stab my Sherco into gear, get it onto the peg, and GO!" Thanks y'all for your concern, y'hear? May God richly bless you and your homes. Enjoy your health! ...I Corinthians 1:18 NKJV |
