After Geoff Aaron announced his retirement from national competition last year, the field was wide open for a new champion. The 2007 nationals wrapped up in New Mexico last Sunday and 17 year old Patrick Smage won the title with 6 wins out of the 10 round series. Pat's Sherco teammate Cody Webb will wear the #2 plate after posting 2 wins and Chris Florin moves into the #3 slot, also with 2 wins this season on his GG. STRA hero and Scorpa's Will Ibsen turned more than a few heads with 2 podium positions and the #4 plate in his first season as a Pro rider. Montesa's Keith Wineland finished the season in 5th after winning the tie-breaker over "our own" Bruce le Riche. Bruce finished his NATC career with a 3rd in NM and will be missed around TTC, the STRA and on the national circuit next year. Bruce is a class act, great rider and all-round good guy. I think it is fantastic that the South can put 3 riders in the top 6! Be sure and congratulate these guys on their accomplishments and don't forget Chad Kimbrell, Bill Ibsen and Tony Bussing for their hard work as minders for these riders.

Thank you, Brock. Great news, and an interesting outcome. Up for grabs the title was, and I am proud that Patrick did the grabbin'! They are a great family, the Smages. I too am thrilled for Willy, he certainly has passed the up and comer status! The Ibsens are a great family as well. I will add my congratulations to RYP. Three out of the top four! Way to go y'all! ...I Corinthians 1:18 NKJV
