I just wanted to thank everyone at the CTC for the great time I had at the TTC event this Saturday. This was my first trial, and I can't imagine having had a better time.

Thanks!

While it was far from my first trials, it was a great time for Ben and I. With all the talk about how to get more people involved in trials it would be a shame to not have an experience like yesterday -- a small group of riders having fun riding trials.
We hope Frank is doing OK after his dramatic dismount and thanks again to everyone involved in hosting the event.

I also had a great time. I am not quite sure why we did not have a huge turn out. It was a 2 day modern event at the TTC. The only difference between this event and the 58K was basically that we used peer scoring and STRA championship points were not paid. These CTC events are very well run. I hope more people will take advantage of the series. We will try to do more advertizing for the 2 day event in June at Cookville, Tn.

Clay and I were able to attend the Saturday event and I can attest to the quality of the sections, as well as the company. We had every intention of coming back Sunday, but circumstances intervened and we couldn’t get back. The CTC guys are a class act, even hosting a cookout that kept the dampness out our spirits as the late rain settled the dust at TTC. Thanks to them for the hospitality and to the folks at TTC for the venue. Everyone should really try to make it to Cookeville, you won’t be disappointed.

Yes, great event, however, I just can't get into the peer scoring thing. Especially when there are 7 in a group and 1 or more of them like to memorize each leaf and twig, then rest between each loop. Sorry, my flaw but I'm being honest..

Thanks paul we can always count on your honesty I also would like to have checkers but the club is still small and more members would allow for more choices any ideas are welcomed

Thanks

My thanks to all the local CTC members who made this event happen. It was a beautiful weekend and a super event. Just plain fun.

By the by the sandbag is getting pretty heavy so look for a possible class change at he next event.

I can see how peer scoring would work for some and not for others. I personally enjoyed the close group of Novice and Intermediate riders this past weekend. Moving as a group, instead of individuals gave us time to get to know some new riders (new to me anyway), and to get to know each other a little better as well.

Different strokes for different folks.
I enjoyed it very much and I like the tips we
get while group riding. I'm glad the STRA events
have checkers and allow you to finish faster but for the club events I accually enjoy the peer scoring and the fellowship with the other riders.
We still finished pretty quickly on Saturday.
I don't see the need to hurry our fun up at a club event.

Being a newbie, I really enjoyed the peer scoring as I got to know some really nice people. But, it really is beside the point since there weren't enough people to score each section anyway - especially since the advanced and expert riders rode different sections.

The other good thing is that everybody who wanted to ride was able to. Often, people who are active in the club putting on an event, regardless of the sport, have to give up their chance to participate in order to work the event, and that wasn't the case.

Again, I had a fantastic time, and I am very grateful to everyone who made it possible.

Seems to be a fair amount of discussion on this subject so I guess I will chime in too. There are things I like and things I don’t like about peer scoring. My take is somewhat different than others. I really like meeting and riding with new people and people I have met previously but to be competitive the pace is too fast for me. What did he say? Looks like I am one of the leaf and twig guys Paul mentioned. Actually, what happens for me is that I really can’t remember the sections well enough to just ride up and ride through until later in the event. Maybe I just need more experience or confidence but I like to look at sections quite a bit before riding at least through the second loop.

At the CTC event we went faster than I would on my own but I felt pretty good anyway. We rode some of the National sections and I am sure not having splits helped with my confidence. So, I too had a great time riding. Everything was good even in the slippery stuff on Sunday until the third loop. On section two (the most difficult section for me) I actually had gotten through the tough stuff before “The Big One”. While coming down a small hill between a couple of large rocks I went from one mph to upside down with my bike on top of me instantaneously. Did I mention that this was the easy part of the section. From what I was told this was a photo opportunity that was missed. My kill button was within a couple of inches of my face so I depressed it quickly. While lying there momentarily wondering what happened, I deduced that my body was not designed to be contorted into the position that it was in, ouch. Based on the expression on my face my new riding buddies Randy, Ron, Doug, and Ben, hurried to my assistance. After literally lifting the bike off me and shooing the snake away they helped me to my feet. At this point one foot was working much better than the other but things have improved since then. Thanks to R,R,D & B for getting me and my bike back to the truck and the others that were concerned about my condition.

I may be old but I am stupid too. See ya at the next one!!

Frank
