Last year we discussed Youth Riders not having to check for eligibility. Did we discuss an age limit to this? I have several young riders riding in classes other than Youth Classes and I need to figure out work exclusion. Thanks, Brian

Great subject for the business meeting Brian. I am of the opinion that if a competitor rides the main event, then the work rule should apply. Not that observing could always be handled by a child, but certainly marking the score cards should be something any rider with skills to enter the main event should be able to do. Too late for the '09 season though. Peace & merry Christmas. ...I Corinthians 1:18 NKJV

Aaron rode some intermeadiate and some sports man, but he DID NOT work. He did not feel he was placing high enough in either class to warrant working instead of riding gadsden. He has the Ricky Bobby syndrone, "If you ain't first, you're last". Aaron is certainly able to check, I don't see any reason a child that can ride could not check. I think a child checking with their parent or other responsible adult is great. Get them started early. Their attention span may not last the entire event, but it helps them understand the sport much better.

That's what Olivia and I do. It involves her much more deeply in the sport, and she learns a lot while she is working. It's a commitment to the sport. Youth class riders are probably too young to check and really shouldn't be required to, because they don't get the same bang for the buck (all day competition) and might find it onerous to be stuck in a section all day.
