Round three of the AMA/Geico endurocross was this past saturday in Florence, SC. In the trialscross class we had a very small turnout. Will Sharp from kentucky and myself were the only entries. With only two of us, they decided to run us with the plus 30 class. Thats good, im over 30 anyway! They did this to give the crowd a good show by having a full gate. The crowd of 4200 got to see us trials bikes put on a show with will and i coming in first and second. With myself lapping the field and Will lapping all but one, the fans were loving it. With the win, I qualified for the dash-for-cash. I found myself lining up next to team Geico brothers Eric and Ryan Rogers and a few others on regular bikes. At this point i was feeling how fat and outta shape i am! At the end of the four grueling laps i found out i finished third and had to go over to the podium to collect some money. (This was pretty cool) and by the way, there waiting on you when you get off the podium with a W9 tax form. In the PRO class, we saw STRA rider Ronnie Commo III battling all day, but having tough breaks and coming up just short of qualifing for the main. Ronnie had his TM screaming around the track. He looked good and had some impressive lap times, but just had bad luck in his qualifiers. Trials rider Dustin Headwell also made an appearence in florence. Dustin has been with the Commo's for about a week riding. Dustin was on his honda with a new graphic kit out there giving it a go. He also came up a little short for the main event. Maybe with dustin staying with commo, maybe he will be riding a BETA in the nationals next year. 10 time ama trials champ Geoff Aaaron had an impresive ride in the main coming in second! Taddy made it three in a row, you can tell by his riding style he has a trials background. Phil Smage is running the #10 on his bike. Phil was tenth overall last year, battling the factory guys out of his pocket and van. Phil was right there in his qualifiers but took some soil samples on the last laps to eliminate him from the main. If anyone wants a hardcore workout, go ride a endurcross. Four laps dont seem like much, try it and let me know what you think. We all had a great time.
