The World Round was excellant. Though it's difficult to improve upon perfection I figured we'd try. And even though we all prefer to reinvent the wheel each time I figured we'd take some notes. Please e-mail me with your feedback, good and other about the event. I'm interested in details pertaining to whatever work area / job you were involved with and observations in general. I'll compile the info for the record and for the next big event of this sort.
Thanks, John jgng@numail.org Topic: World Round |

John: I think a "lessons learned" is a great idea. Here are some thoughts...
a) Have more spectator loop arrows to the sections - fairly easy to improve over the FIM supplied cards. This was one area I worked in. (I thought it interesting how the Euros were making fun of the spectator shuttle on Trials Central. They thought it overkill when the sections were so close.) b) Move the event a week or 2 or 3 earlier on the calendar. (Hopefully cooler and not in the middle of finals/graduation prep for so many schools.) c) Keep the sections easily grouped and accessable like they were this year, but 1 or 2 sections that are a bit more remote would be fine too. d) Also keep the wide variety of terrain offered this year. That was a big plus when reading chat room reviews. e) Possibly make a stadium section out of the logs in the field for the final section of the day. f) Leave a bit more room between the sections - especially in the stream. There were some space issues as riders exited one section and dodged rdiers lining up for the next inbetween sections 1 and 2 or 2 and 3. g) I think a lot more things need to stay just as they happened this year than need to change! What a great weekend! |

Hi gang,
Here is the tally on the world round receipts/expenses. We'll have a more detailed report for the business meeting in Jan., and I'll be happy to answer any questions. Receipts: $104k total; $18k from concessions (t-shirts, beer, etc.) $72k from gate & camping $7k from NATC entries $5k from sponsors Expenses: $128k total; there's quite a long list of expenses, but the biggest single category is about $60k spent for bulldozing, gravel, etc., essentially infrastructure improvements. So, a net loss of $24k. We couldn't have done the event without the ground improvements, but I think we are now well positioned for hosting future events. We would've broke even with 1000 more spectators on Sunday, and I am sure that we were at least 1000 down on Sunday compared to Saturday because of the rain. I'm not complaining, as I willingly accepted the financial risk for this venture. I only ask for the help and cooperation of STRA members for future events; with the investment made in the place this year we are now well positioned to do this again. It looks like maybe 2008. In the meantime, I trust that all STRA members will enjoy the improvements in the camping area and in the cleared riding areas. STRA members are always welcome to come to TTC for practice and riding at no charge. regards, Dan |
